Carolina Breast Friends
About Carolina Breast Friends (CBF)
Established in November 2003 by Kristy Adams-Ebel, CBF is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization committed to uniting and helping women with breast cancer in all stages of survival. The organization centers around those who want to create a social and educational outlet for women united in a sisterhood of survival and hope.
Diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 32, Kristy recognized that part of her ability to cope with the struggle she faced depended on communing with fellow survivors. She understood the importance of being in a positive setting where the focus was on healing, self-exploration, and empowerment through knowledge. Until her death in 2006, Kristy's determination, selflessness, and humor remained as strong as ever. She was, and is, an inspiration to everyone at Carolina Breast Friends.
Ongoing Outreach Projects
CBF holds several fundraising events throughout the year. Funds raised during these events have enabled us to finance outreach projects and support services in the Charlotte community. Recent events include:
- Charlotte Checkers Pink in the Rink
- Wine Tasting at Nolen's Kitchen
- Provence Art Show and Dinner at Patou
- Paws for a Cause in South End
Ongoing Support Services
We find that serving others promotes not only their inner healing, but ours as well. If you know a friend going through this experience we welcome their inquiry! We encourage our members who have finished treatment to get involved with mentoring and other service projects.
Carolina Breast Friends helps every day through the following ways:
- Information and comfort to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients.
- Distribution of more than 1000 “Comfort Bags” completed with the help of The Breast Center Navigators of Presbyterian Hospital and Carolina Medical Center, along with various chemotherapy infusion centers in the area. Comfort Bags contain products that women will need to help them through their chemotherapy treatment journey.
- Placement of almost 1800 “Inspiration Jars” into the hands of women newly diagnosed with breast cancer in Charlotte. The Breast Cancer Navigators of Presbyterian Hospital and Carolina Medical Center help CBF distribute these jars that contain positive quotes from breast cancer survivors.
- Establishment of a medical fund for uninsured and underinsured sisters who need financial help while going through treatment.
- Workshops and group events geared towards living life with an attitude of sisterhood and survival!
- Mentoring program in which our members help newly diagnosed women of similar age and diagnosis navigate the difficult path they must take.
